Gwen Appeal!

Clad in leather and saving the world in style, Gwen Cooper is the 21st century’s Emma Peel, but Eve Myles tells Torchwood magazine she prefers beagles to bowler hats! We get her unique take on the forthcoming Children of Earth from the Cardiff set: ‘You’re going to see Jack, Ianto, Gwen and Rhys all proving why they deserve the title of heroes. They’re all big heroes in this new series, and there are some wonderful moments where you find out more about their backgrounds and their lives outside Torchwood. It’s very touching and very moving. And there’s nakedness! That’s all I’m saying!’

From out of the vaults

So, what do Brief Encounter, Godzilla and Pinocchio have in common? The answer, of course, is that Torchwood has given a nod to all three movies over its first two trailblazing series. In issue #10 we looked at some of the TV shows that have provided inspiration for Torchwood writers and directors – now we examine some of the show’s filmic forerunners. If you think there’s anything we’ve left out, please let us know! Email torchwoodmagazine@titanemail.com or post your opinion on the discussion board on our Facebook Page.

Blake’s Progress

We talk to Gareth Thomas about his guest role as Ed Morgan in the first series of Torchwood. The Blake’s 7 star never stops learning about his craft, and his appearance in Ghost Machine was an education for his fans, too: ‘I’m not a particular fan of sci-fi at all. If it’s a good script, it doesn’t matter if it’s in space or underwater. Blake’s 7 and Torchwood are both science fiction, but there’s no connection between the two at all. Blake’s 7 was kind of like farce, only in the sense that it’s real people in very unreal situations. But Torchwood, to a large extent, is real people in real situations.’
